"Now that the New Year has really started and the Opera employees are flooding back to the office (not to escape their families I might add, but rather because Opera is so much fun!), the hard work begins on making Evenes more functional, and ... umm ... less buggy!

So what do we have for you so far? Well we have upgraded our core rending engine slightly, done a little work on video support, improved certain aspects of performance, improved Windows 7 integration, fixed some mail issues and added support for IMAP COMPRESS, added 'inspect element' to the right click menu and finally of course, fixed a number of common crashes!

Given that we still have much work to do, what we are really looking for from you is new issues and bugs that you notice. If you have reported a bug already and it isn't fixed, don't worry, we'll get to it but do keep in mind that this is work in progress. Also remember that whilst it is handy to discuss bugs with others in the comments below, reporting a bug consists of actually submitting a bug report through our bug report wizard.

Once again the builds provided reflect those that are stable enough to release at the time of going to press. A small number of fixes were removed whilst we investigated better, cleaner solutions. However with certain key fixes removed, we have a temporary reduction in platforms. With a bit of hard work (and luck) we will have more platforms and an even better Evenes for all our fans next time around!

From this point on we are shifting up a gear to get you a stable 10.5 as soon as we possibly can"

U radu su Opera i FF slično brzi (zavisi od sajta do sajta), ali FF ima enormnu prednost po pitanju gomile extra korisnih (i onih drugih ) extenzija. Takođe, Opera ima nešto više problema sa prikazom ponekih stranica (mada, sada je to već zanemarljiv broj).

U svakom slučaju, moje je mišljenje da bi svako trebao da koristi i FF i Operu po npr. 20ak dana, pa da vidi šta mu više odgovara. Ja oba browsera koristim od samih početaka (Operu od beta verzije 2, FF od Phoenix 0.3 čini mi se) i za sada dajem prednost FFu, ali smatram da je Opera vrlo blizu. Kada bi nekako omogućili korišćenje FF extenzija u Operi, to bi bio, imho, vrhunski rezultat!

Koristio sam oba browsera od ranih verzija, Opera 3 je bila prva shto sam ja probao, a firefox je bio josh firebird kad sam ja probao. Iskreno mene ekstenzije uopshte ne zanimaju, moj lichni stav je da je opera neshto brza i manje je resource hog od FF-a. Browser koji mi se sve vishe dopada je Chrome , ali se i dalje drzim Opere

I ja sam koristio i Operu i FF od samih pocetaka.. Dugo sam koristio Operu ali kad sam jednom presao na FF, ne mislim da se vracam na Operu dok ne izmisle nesto revolucionarno..

Please note that a bug causes this setting to also disable the download progress bar behind the Opera icon.

Opera 10.50.3222 Alpha

After staffing up and accelerating the development process, we are now approaching the beta stage on Windows. This build has a number of skin fixes and improvements, a large number of bugfixes, and Opera Unite should be working again.

We also have a new feature for you.

The return of Geolocation

Last year, we introduced Geolocation API support in a labs build on Opera Labs. Since then, much has changed. We're now using the Google Location Services as the backend and we no longer need to use a separate executable to scrape wifi data on Windows XP. We're happy to release the first desktop release with this feature as standard.

What is geolocation?

Location specific services on the web is not new. Many web sites offer localized services based on your IP address such as "Find a Friend in [your city]". IP address location is typically very inaccurate and cannot be used for more advanced location services.

With the W3C Geolocation API, this changes as the browser is able to provide much more accurate location data to a web site using the additional wifi data from the surrounding wifi endpoints. This will allow for services such as Flickr's World Map for finding geolocation tagged images close to your location (use "Find my location") or example services such as on HTML 5 demos site.

How do I turn it on?

The first time you go to a Web site that requests geolocation information, Google Location Services' terms and conditions are presented. If you agree to them, the service is activated,

After that, every time a Web site requests geolocation information, Opera tells you, and gives you a choice: to send your location data, or not to send it.

If you at first reject Google Location Services' terms and conditions, but later change your mind, open opera:config, search for "Enable Geolocation", check the checkbox, and save the settings.

How do I turn it off?

You can reject Google Location Services' terms and conditions. Alternatively, open opera:config, search for "Enable Geolocation", uncheck the checkbox, and save the settings.

How does geolocation work? How well does it work?

It depends on the device, and its way of connecting to the Internet.

If the device is a desktop computer, without any wireless connections, the Internet address (IP address) is used to determine the device's location, and the measurement is rather crude.

To determine the location of a laptop or other wireless device, Opera may in addition send the following data from nearby Wi-Fi access points:

MAC address (uniquely identifies the hardware)
signal strength (tells how far away it is)

A database of known Wi-Fi access points, together with measured signal strength, makes it possible to give rather precise location information.

The success of this method depends largely on the concentration of known access points.

How do I know that a Web page is using location data?

When you first go to a Web page that uses location data, Opera tells you, and you decide whether or not to send the data. Thereafter, a pin appears in the address field connected with that page. Clicking on the pin opens a site preferences dialog where you can change the geolocation setting to one of three values: "Yes", "No", and "Ask me".

How is my privacy protected?

Every time a Web site requests your location data, Opera tells you, and asks your permission to send it.

With your permission, Opera passes the location data to Google Location Services, and sends an estimated latitude and longitude to the Web site.

Opera does not save location data, nor are any cookies generated. Every time your location is requested, Opera redetermines the location data.

The data passed to Google includes location data, plus a random client identifier, assigned by Google, that expires every 2 weeks. The data passed to Google is governed by Google's own Privacy Policy.

The location information sent to the Web site is governed by the Web site's privacy policy. It is the responsibility of the Web site to dispose of this information in a way that is consistent with the W3C's Geolocation API Specification.

We are still working on streamlining the user interface for geolocation. Your privacy is important to us so we are trying to make sure that you will get a clear and understandable message when a web sites wants to request your location.

Ova Opera mi deluje odlično, čak mi rade i one stvari u Joomli na koje sam ranije kukao
RSS i dalje nije promenjen, ali dobro.
Intefejs je veoma dobar i prilagođen 7-ici, mada i u classic režimu izgleda OK.

Even with the beta out, there still isn't much time to rest. We've got another snapshot, and this time there are quite a few crash fixes, and updates to Carakan and widgets.

The main focus of this snapshot is crash bugs.

Imam jedno pitanje za vas kojima je Opera default browser: koliko Opera trosi memorije ? U principu, meni to nije bitno ali imam kolegu koji non-stop kuka na FF kako mu uspori masinu. Skinuo sam gore pomenutu verziju (10.5 beta) i otvorio 20 tabova (skoro svaki vrti flash, na jednom se vrteo java applet ....) i task manager je prikazao Peak memory usage preko 500MB a u toku koriscenja same Opere zauzece se drzalo na 300MB. Onda sam iste te linkove otvorio u FF 3.6 i ocekivao sam da ce da bude gori po tom pitanju ali zanimljivo da je peak bio 230MB i da se zauzece drzalo na tih 230MB prilikom koriscenja istog (doduse ja sam nesto tweakovao FF). Ne zelim da pomislite da ulazim u pricu koji je browser bolji nego me cisto interesuje. I jos nesto, primetio sam jos jednu stvar koju Oper a cini mi se i Chrome drze kao default a to je da skrol tockic ima veci "korak" nego u FF (kada je default) pa se subjektivno doima da radi brze. Ja sam u FF promenio da tockic skroluje 6 linija i ukljucio sam smooth scroll tako da sam dobio skoro identican osecaj mada ne sumnjam da su i Opera i Chrome brzi u raznim testovima.
