According to Bloomberg, Intel Corp., the world's biggest maker of semiconductors, will supply Nokia Oyj with processors for mobile devices, a breakthrough in its effort to enter the phone market, a person familiar with the matter said.
For 35 years, Intel has developed technology enabling the computer and Internet revolution that has changed the world. And now, that technology expertise is improving the way the world communicates through mobile handheld devices. By improving the way people compute and communicate while on the go, Intel technologies and solutions are transforming the way we live and work.
The deal between Nokia and Intel will be announced on a conference scheduled for today, said the anonymous person to Bloomberg. Intel scheduled the call for an “important announcement” with Anand Chandrasekher, senior vice president of the company’s ultra-mobility group.
“Even if they get just a piece of Nokia’s business, it’s a big deal,” said Will Strauss, a Cave Creek, Arizona-based analyst for research firm Forward Concepts. “Nokia is still the biggest cell-phone maker in the world.”
Claudine Mangano, a spokeswoman for Santa Clara, California-based Intel, declined to comment. Laurie Armstrong, a spokeswoman for Nokia in the U.S., didn’t immediately return calls seeking comment.
Mobile phones, PDAs, personal media players and other handheld devices based on Intel® Mobile Media Technology provide the ability to access information and run even the most media-rich applications anywhere, any time, on any device.
