[VM] Sun VirtualBox

Cini mi se da vecina ljudi koja je cula za virtualizaciju, a rade na Windows platformi koristi VMWare Workstation ili Microsoft Virtual PC.

VMWare Workstation je za moj ukus previse glomazan i nije besplatan, a Microsoft Virtual PC iako radi odlicno (narocito verzija u Windows 7 operativnom sistemu) ima nekako premalo opcija i emulira samo single-core procesore.

Sa druge strane Sun VirtualBox (trenutna verzija 3.0.2), potpuno besplatan kao i Microsoft Virtual PC nudi mnogo vise, izmedju ostalog:

- Guest SMP sa do 32 virtuelna procesora (samo uz VT-x i AMD-V)
- Direct3D 8/9 aplikacije / igre za Windows guest sisteme (eksperimentalno!)
- OpenGL 2.0 za Windows, Linux i Solaris guest sisteme

Takodje, closed-source verzija (koja je takodje besplatna za licnu upotrebu) nudi i sledece opcije:

- Remote Display Protocol (RDP) Server

Omogucava daljinsko povezivanje na virtuelnu masinu preko bilo kog RDP klijenta.

- Virtual USB controller

Omogucava koriscenje USB 1.1 i 2.0 uredjaja u guest operativnom sistemu.

- USB over RDP

Omogucava da USB uredjaji sa udaljenog racunara preko koga se pristupa budu dostupni virtuelnoj masini.

- Virtual SATA controller

Omogucava bolje performanse i manju potrosnju resursa nego sa Virtual IDE kontrolerom i povezivanje vise od 3 virtuelna diska.

Ne bih se uzdao u to jos. Meni je W7 host a Fedora 10 guest (sve 64 bitno) i probao sam glxgears, radi sa nekih 500 fps, trebalo bi probati Doom 3 za Linux kao potvrdu.

Evo igrao sam se malo 3D podrskom. Ispostavilo se mi 3D podrska nije ni aktivna iako je cekirana. Proverio sam glxinfo-om, radi se o SW renderu. Instalirao sam guest additions od verzije 3.0.2 (bila je instalirana starija verzija guest additions) i glxinfo prikazuje sta je sve podrzano ali pukne na pola (segmentation fault). Glxgears radi ali recimo 10x sporije !!! Daje oko 60 fps. Da ne pricam da mi je login screen zabrljan i da ne mogu da podesim desktop (KDE). Probao sam i na Fedori 11, ista prica. Moguce da ovo radi bolje sa Windows guest-om.

To moze odavno, samo je pitanje koliko dobro mozes da se igras... , ako ti vise od 60fps nije obaevzno, poteraces sve "normalnije igre"

Iskreno ja imam upravo podignutno 4x Win2003 i 2x WinXP (jbg sprema se za MSCSE) i ako sam im svima stavio da uzimaju samo po 256 rama radi kao sat.

Veoma lako za konfigurisanje (tu odmah mislim na TCP/IP), mislim da uskoro pored ovoga VMWare nece imati sta da trazi...

Ja i dalje koristim VMware, kao što sam i radio poslednjih 3 godine od kako sam dobio isti i vrlo sam zadovoljan. Isto tako nisam bio nimalo impresioniran sa VirtualBox-om, mada... sudeći po onom što sam čitao i po ovim "fix&update"-ima... moraću da probam.

@BigJoe, jedini problem koji je bio sa virtualnim Windows-ima, je bila grafika. Nisam probao da igram igrice na istim... moj ti je predlog, instaliraj na windowsu probno, napravi virtualnu mašinu i isprobaj sam...

Meni nikako nije uspelo da odradim ctrl+alt+delete komandu, sta god kliknem, probao bilo koju kombinaciju tastera iz uputstva i sa neta, ne prihvata....

VM je domenski server 2003 gde nema sanse da se ulogujem bez toga.
ako neko ima ideju...

Meni konkretno radi desni Control + Del. Za svaki slucaj, da li si probao iz padajuceg menija da izaberes: Machine -> Insert Ctrl-Alt-Del? Jesi li instalirao guest addons ?

P.S. Ova verzija sada radi ok u grafickom rezimu (KDE 4). Nema vise brljanja logon screena u Fedori 10.

Meni konkretno radi desni Control + Del. Za svaki slucaj, da li si probao iz padajuceg menija da izaberes: Machine -> Insert Ctrl-Alt-Del? Jesi li instalirao guest addons ?

Po defaultu je Desni CTRL 'host dugme', pa ako hoces da odradis ctrl+ald+del, onda stisnes desni ctrl+del, mada mozes i da promenis dugme pa da ti bude bilo koje drugo.

Sve sam probao, nema sanse, jednostavno ne reaguje. Instalirao sam add on, ali bez uspeha.
Vratio sam se trenutno na VMware, on radi skroz ok, jedino sto uzima gomilu resursa i instalira dosta servisa.

Probacu danas ovu najnoviju verziju, imao sam verziju pre ove, bezuspesno. A sto se tice win sistema, VirtualPC sasvim korektno radi posao, a free je.

Realno, da bi koristio VMware Workstation na Windows platformi, potrebno ti je minimum 4GB ram memorije. U tvom slučaju, kratak si bar giga... ali sa druge strane x58 platforma.
Na Linux platformi, mogao bi da koristiš VMware bez problema sa 3GB ram-a, jer sam linux kada se instalira uzeće ti < 300mb RAM-a.(kod mene npr, sa 8gb, ubuntu amd64 uzme ~600mb dok Vista je na 3 puta više).

imam jedan omanji problem, koristim Sun Virtual Box i Ubuntu 10.04 kao guest sistem u njemu, i sad recimo unutar guest sistema nikako da mi uhvati screenshot, znaci udarim printscreen a na slici sve je crno okolo vidi se samo pointer od misa, 128 MB rama je dato guest sistemu, 2 jezgra i 2 gb rama... ima li resenja za ovo?

128mb rama od GPU sam mislio gore... a 2 GB sistemskog rama
