Pitanja za razvojni tim AMD/ATI GPU-ova

Dragi PCAXE forumaši,

PCAXE redakcija je doshla na ideju da napravi mail intervju sa ljudima i AMD-ATI GPU razvojnog tima, a evo nekih od pitanja koje bi smo kao komuna postavili. Naravno, razlog zbog koga smo postovali ovu temu je taj da mozda neshto nismo propustili, pa nas ispravite. Pitanje mozete da postavite i na srpskom, bitno je samo da imamo shto vishe pitanja, a sam intervju cemo objaviti na PCAXE portalu.
Cilj ove teme i intervjua je skretanja paznje inzinjerima ATI-a na propuste shto hardverske shto softverske.

1. Are you planning to reorganize CCC?

Ati CCC in version 8 was looking a bit ugly but some options were more user friendly. Example od that was making available GPU picture scalling (stretching to screen edges with keeping ratio). In version 9 they made that option so complicated that makes no sense at all.

2. Are you gonna make possible forcing of AA modes that always working

Its happening that when you forcing AA from CCC thats not working if game is not supported by driver. Examle of that is BORDERLANDS which is using UT3 engine and does not permit setting AA modes from the game. If you don’t rename EXE file from borderlands.exe to UT3. exe forcing AA from CCC is useless.

3. Are the problems with series HD 5xxx software or the hardware nature?
4. Profiles and shimmering?

Are you planning to make profiles same as nVIDIA, to be precise that they automatically open when they recognize some EXE file and to return to default profile when you close that EXE file. At the moment everything is manual and makes things harder.
Are you going to solve shimmering problems with old games?

5. Are you planning to enable setting up card at 3D clocks if you start up some 3D application in window?

At the moment when you start up game in “window mode” card does not automatically set up 3D clock.

6. Are you planning to make side port available on the X2 cards sometime in the future?

5970 and 4870X2 got direct connection between GPU’s which has never been enabled through drivers.

7. Will Catalyst in the future be able to balance load in CFX regimes?

When we start up two applications that are using GPU at the same time and we have X2 card/CF/CFX setup will driver be able to run each application on different GPU’s?

8. Will AVIVO video converting be improved in the future?

Are you planning to improve converting quality and speed? Will ever that application going to support multi GPU’s?

9. Will ATi Stream have the same progression as CUDA?

Many programmers share the opinion that support for STREAM programming is much worse than in CUDA . Much more software supports acceleration over CUDA than over STREAM.

Ne desava se samo u starijim igrama, primetno je bilo i u Dragon Age.

Da li ce Avivo podrzavati jos formata na koje je moguce kovertovati finalni video. (Xvid, DivX)

When you force AA from CCC it is supposed to stay on. It is like some games are not supported from the driver. I.e. Borderlands is using UT3 engine, and forced AA does not work. When you rename exe file from borderlands.exe to ut3.exe, forced AA works.

3. Are the problems that have been detected by HD5xxx series users results of hardware or software issues.

4. Profiles and shimmering?

Are you planning to make profiles same as nVIDIA? By that we mean, will there be specific profiles for different games (different clocks, AA, AF settings). At the moment you need to manually change those settings, which makes things harder.

At the moment when you start a game in windowed mode, card does not automatically set up 3D clock.

6. Are you planning to make sideport available on the X2 cards sometime in the future?

If we stared two applications that are using GPU simultaneously and we have a X2 card or aCF/CFX setup could driver run each application on a different GPU?

Are you planning to improve converting quality and speed? Will AVIVO support multiple GPUs.

9. Will ATi Stream have the same progression as CUDA?

Many programmers share opinion that support for STREAM programming is much worse than support for CUDA. Currently there is more software support for CUDA than for STREAM.

To je prva stvar koju prifacam , ne znam shta mi bi to da napishem , ovo ostalo je sviranje onoj stvari, vrlo je bitno da pitanja budu koncizna i da se razume shta je pisac hteo da kaze. Detalji na koji su ona napisana su toliko nebitni u celj prici da je to zlo

Jos jedno pitanje bi moglo da se doda, a to je da li planiraju da ubace podrsku za dekodiranje L5.1 HD ripova, sa vecim brojem referentnih frejmova nego sto standardi nalazu, da bi i takav materijal mogao da se pusta preko DXVA. Nvidia je to poodavno omogucila kroz drajvere.

Sideport ne postoji na 5970 pa neka se to izbaci kao pitanje.

Dodati pitanje:

"It is already possible to easily overclock graphic cards based on your GPUs using third party applications or bios editing. If we have that information why don't you finally allow full overclock potential through CCC."

Bravo Miško78 , ja imam kartu koja ladno ide sa 720 na 820 a memorija sa 900 na preko 1000 ( nisam detaljno testirao ) . Mislim da su im ove overklok margine beskorisne jer niti koriste pun potencijal hardvera niti će to nekoga da spreči da overklokuje .

Ja sam takodje za ukidanje tih margina, pogotovu sto sa tim ne moze ni da naskodi nesto hardveru.
