Core i5: First pictures of the sockets LGA 1155 and 1156

Quite soon Intel's currently fastest processor, the Core i7 965, will be replaced by a newer model, the Core i7 975 with 3.33 GHz. But the Core i5 devices for the mainstream market are probably more interesting. For the first time in Intel's history one of their processors could have an integrated graphics core. Currently rumors expect that Intel will release those processors in summer 2009. Lynnfield and Heavendale will be based on the sockets LGA 1155 and 1156. Furthermore there is the socket LGA 1567 for Xeon processors.

Ma nek' ih zaleme na ploču pa da se ne zezamo više s time... I tako smo manje više već navikli. Ili nismo, ipak sam ubo AM3 u AM2+ ploču...

Here's a simple comparison between future, current and past sockets:
FPGA604 will be replaced with LGA1567
LGA771 is being replaced by socket LGA1366
LGA775 will be replaced with LGA1156
Socket PBGA479, PPGA478 and BGA956 are being replaced by mPGA989 (yes Intel has many different mobile sockets)
Socket LGA1155 will never see retail availability, LGA1155 was part of socket testing, validation (as is LGA1157) and such. In the end though, Intel decided to use socket LGA1156 for their future CPUs. That's the reason why you see quite a couple of sites mention LGA1155, because it exists. It will never see any retail shelves though.
