Nvidia rumored to launch GeForce GTX 590 dual-GPU card in February

Nvidia is apparently very serious about ensuring that the graphics performance crown will be in possession in the coming months as a report claims that it will release a dual-GPU monster called GeForce GTX 590 that will blow everything out of the water.

Nvidia's last dual-GPU product is the GeForce GTX 295 (introduced in January 2009) so it's been quite a while since the company has paired up two chips on a card, one of the reasons for the 'hiatus' being the high power draw of its top-end Fermi-based GPU (the GF100). The stars seem to have aligned nicely though, as the tweaked 40nm GF110 GPU would be used on the incoming GeForce GTX 590, allowing the card to have 1024 of CUDA Cores, a 2 x 384-bit memory interface and 3GB of GDDR5 memory. Its frequencies are unknown but it's very likely they won't be higher than those on the single-GF110 GeForce GTX 580 flagship (772/1544/4008 MHz for the GPU/shader/memory).

The GeForce GTX 590 should draw a heap of power (GeForce GTX 580 TDP of 244W) and is claimed to come in February, bearing a large heatsink with a centered 90mm fan. If real, the GeForce GTX 590 will counter AMD's latest dual-GPU card, the Radeon HD 5990 (codename Antilles) which will have 3072 Stream Processors and 4GB of VRAM.
